MECHANICSVILLE, MARYLAND (July 08, 2019) – One of the fan favorite events returns to Maryland International Raceway ™ (MDIR) this Saturday, July 13th, 2019. The 41st Annual Jet Wars continues to impress while being the longest running event in the history of MDIR. The Speed Unlimited ET Series, which will be running at this year’s Jet Wars, brings some of the best bracket racers in the DMV area to MDIR.

Jason Kirby has been consistent all year and currently sits atop the points in Top ET. Kirby took the points lead away from Anthony Whelan at the last ET series race in early June. Kirby currently has a 19 point lead over Whelan and a 40 point lead over Michael Cockrell and Ray Snoots who sit tied for 3rd. Cockrell is a driver to keep an eye on at each event being a threat to win at any time. Snoots is starting to make a name for himself in the Top ET program. A graduate from the Hubble Motorsports Junior Dragster program a few years ago, Snoots has been having a career year. Snoots continues to charge forward for his first career Top ET victory.

Defending Mod ET champion Tony Mattera won the championship in Mod ET the previous two years and is on track to win it for the third straight year. The last time a similar feat was completed, it was by Johnny Mattera from 1999-2002 when he won 4 straight championships. Tony Mattera currently sits with a 40 point advantage over George Windsor and Keith Burch who are tied for 2nd. Stephen Cross Jr. currently sits 4th in the points, 50 points behind the leader Mattera. Mattera, who does not have a win yet on the season, has won the championship in a similar fashion. In 2017, Mattera would end up in multiple finals, but was not able to win a point’s event. With almost halfway through the season, it is still anyone’s race.

The Hubble Motorsports Junior Dragsters for the last few years have had a close point’s battle all season long. Defending champion Jordan Denny currently sits on top with a 10 point lead over Zach Parlett and Tori Tayman who are both tied for 2nd. Jessica Tayman currently sits 19 points behind the leader in 4th. Can Denny hold off the field behind him and go back to back?

The Rick’s Jewelers Ring for the Queen program is one of the most unique in all of drag racing. For those with a perfect reaction time or dead-on-zero run in eliminations receive a diamond point. The first driver to 6 points is the champion. Lindy Herman in Top ET currently sits with four points and Anthony Whelan is still in striking distance with three. While diamond points are not easy to achieve, it is possible for Lindy Herman to lock up the Ring for the Queen on Saturday.

Reminder to ET Racers, the gates open at 11am with time trials starting at noon. So grab all your friends and head to Budds Creek!
