The 2020 season brought great car counts, late racing, and the tightest championship fight in the history of Maryland International Raceway ™ (MDIR). A total of 4 points between all three classes would decide the 2020 champions. Top ET and Mod ET would both be decided by one point, and the Hubble Motorsports Junior Dragster championship would be decided by two points.

In Top ET, Christopher Bishop would come into the final event with a one point’s lead over fellow racer Bobby Spence and a few rounds over Billy Thomas. In third round eliminations, both Bishop and Spence would be eliminated from competition. However, Thomas would win third round to continue to keep his hopes alive. Thomas would be eliminated during fourth round dashing his hopes of a championship in 2020. Christopher Bishop is the 2020 Speed Unlimited ET Series Top ET Champion by one point over Bobby Spence! This is Bishop’s first ever Top ET Championship at MDIR.

The Mod ET Championship chase had Bobby Mattera as the points leader with Bradley Tippet in second place going into the final event. These two drivers were separated by one point. In second round of eliminations, both Bradley Tippet and Bobby Mattera would be eliminated from competition. Bobby Mattera would be announced that as the 2020 Speed Unlimited ET Series Mod ET Champion! This is Mattera’s second Mod ET Championship as he also won the championship in 2015.

The Hubble Motorsports Junior Dragster championship was a close one with multiple drivers in the hunt attempting to chase leader Seth Goddard. Tyler Sandy, Kaiden Groves, and Hannah Franck were all within striking distance of Goddard. Goddard would come into the race with an eighteen-point lead on Sandy, and a thirty-nine-point lead on both Groves and Franck. Goddard would be eliminated in second round, opening the door for the remaining racers. Sandy would win third round to take the points lead. Groves would also win third round to stay in contention and Franck would be eliminated. Groves and Sandy would both be eliminated during the fourth round, giving Tyler Sandy his first ever championship with a two-point lead. Congratulations to Tyler Sandy, your 2020 Speed Unlimited ET Series Junior Dragster champion.

The Speed Unlimited Midnight Madness Grand Champion Run-Off is simple to qualify for. A driver in Pro Street, Super Street, or the Hollyrock Custom Diesel Shootout must win their class at a Midnight Madness event. Those that qualify will race each other until one is left standing. While many would qualify, Brenden Quade, Keith Burch, and Hunter Levin would be the final three standing from their respective classes. In the end, Brenden Quade from Pro Street would best the other two drivers and be the 2020 Speed Unlimited Midnight Madness Grand Champion! This is Quade’s second Midnight Madness Championship.

Qualifying for the Bracket Bike Racing Matters Motorcycle Championship Run-Off is the same as the Grand Championship. Win the motorcycle class at a Midnight Madness event and you are going to be racing for the championship. The Bracket Bike Racing Matters Motorcycle Championship Run-Off race had four riders at the start of the night and Jordan Stacy and Jeff Sweeney would face each other in the finals. Jordan Stacy would take the win and secure the Championship. He then rolled into the motorcycle eliminations and took the win in the event.

The Ray's Siding No Clock Street List had a great third season. D.D. Mahoney would come into the race with the points lead with Robbie Padgett and Dominic Emelio within striking distance of the championship. Mahoney would have an issue and not make first round; this opened the door for both Padgett and Emelio. These two racers would end up racing each other in the final with Padgett taking the win on the night for this third points victory of the year. Robbie Padgett is the 2020 Champion in the Ray's Siding No Clock Street List. Padgett would also be the number one driver in last years top ten list.

Congratulations to all of MDIR’s class champions for 2020!

• Hand washing/sanitizing must be done on a regular basis.

• The tower will have restricted access and will be limited to essential staff only.

• The crews will be limited on the starting line and front of the staging lanes, with social distancing extremely enforced. Our security staff and starting line staff will closely monitor this area to prevent unauthorized gathering.

• When not racing, racers are to abide by social distancing requirements. Racers and crew members will be required to stay within their own pit areas when not racing.

• Each group must have adequate PPE for each crew member and must wear masks when required. All groups will be required to acquire their own PPE and bring it with them to the track.

• Our restrooms are equipped with hands free fixtures. Restrooms will be cleaned, stocked and sanitized throughout the day or evening. All Pitside portlets will be moved and taken out of service.

• Concessions will be open, and lines will be marked for proper social distancing. Concession stand will follow all guidelines in place for local food service businesses. We will be open with a limited menu of food items that must be consumed within your pit area or in the grandstands with proper social distancing but not in front of our concession area.
